Lawn Scarification

Even the very best lawns build up a fibrous layer known as thatch and scarification will remove this layer creating the ideal conditions for the grass to grow and flourish.

Where moss is present it is advisable to apply moss killer a week or two before scarifying so that the dead moss is removed.

It is critical that scarification is completed at the correct time of year, in late spring or early autumn, when the grass is actively growing. The majority of our scarification work is completed in late March and early September.

We recommend that this process is followed by top dressing, over seeding and fertilisation to improve the lawn significantly while the grass is still growing.

We use a petrol scarifier with blades that cut into the surface pulling out the thatch. You can see in our picture the impact of the machine and the material it creates.
